Noisy Pack Meetings

A trick for noisy pack meetings.   Normal noise is expected.  Excitement of all the awards, wonderment of an upcoming trip, a special prize for selling the most popcorn is all normal noise that goes on in a pack meeting.  What do you do when there is just too much other noise going on in your pack meetings?   Other noise often times is from the other cub scouts who are not getting recognized at the moment, or parents who use the time to chat (sometimes loudly) in the back of the meeting room.

You've tried the cub scout sign but it just doesn't keep working all the tim.  One trick that often works well in focusing attention to what is going on in the pack meetings, is by playing a noise game.   Tell the Cubs that when you say a special word, or make a special action, that they are to make as much noise as they possibly can...... BUT, when the cub scout sign goes up, they must quiet down as quickly as possible.   Do this two or three times.

The noise from the Cubs will drown out any other noise that is going on in the room.   The sign going up after, will make the room silent enough to hear a pin drop.   Congratulate them on doing such a good job with it.   Then continue on with your next award ceremony.
