Working towards your Eagle Rank?

If you are a Life Scout and wish to work towards your Eagle Rank within the Casco Bay District, you must start out with a Eagle Workbook and Casco Bay District Packet.  These may be obtained from the Council office at the Scout shop.    Ask the Scout shop staff for an Eagle Project Workbook and Casco Bay cover letter.
Both initial project write ups and final project writes ups are due in to the council office with appropriate sign offs, prior to 5pm on the 25th of the month in order to be considered for that month.
The District Advancement Committee meets monthly to review these projects.   They usually meet the following Thursday after the 25th of any given month.  It usually takes about two weeks to hear back from the committee
.
     Advancement Opportunities

Casco Bay has many opportunities to help out in Advancement.  Not the least of these are the many camping events, merit badge colleges and Fly to First Class offered in the Spring during April School Vacation.  To find out more about these events, select the Activities Link in the left navigational pane.
The Aims and Methods of Scouting
The Boy Scout program works toward three aims. One is growth in moral strength and character. This can be defined as what the boy is himself: his personal qualities, his values, his outlook. A second aim is participating citizenship. Used broadly, citizenship means the boy's relationship to others. He comes to learn of his obligations to other people, to the society he lives in, to the government that presides over that society. A third aim of the Boy Scout program is development of physical, mental and emotional fitness. Fitness includes the body (well-tuned and healthy), the mind (able to think and solve problems) and the emotions (self-control, courage and self- respect).
To accomplish these aims, eight methods are used. This approach dates all the way back to Lord Baden-Powell's initial scouting handbook and the very first campout at Brownsea Island. One of these methods is advancement.   Advancement in the different programs in Scouting can be viewed at the national website by clicking on the following links:

Our District Eagle Advancement Chair:

      Bruce Cort

Bruce Cort the Eagle Board of Review Chair is looking for help with Eagle Project review nights and Board of Review nights here in the District. Attached you will find a schedule of the nights his committee meets. This is a great opportunity to learn about the Eagle Process in the Casco Bay District and if each unit got in the habit of sending just one person every couple of months we would all be better able to help the boys with their Eagle work.

Merit Badge Colleges in Casco Bay

There have been some questions about merit badge colleges held in Casco Bay recently. In an attempt to make the details a little more clear for everyone, here goes:

There are typically three merit badge colleges in Casco Bay each year. All three are coordinated and run by volunteers or troops. They are not technically run by the Council, District or it's staff. As a service to the district, we do post the merit badge college information on our website, but each college is still run by the individuals listed below.   Information once available is posted on the Announcments page.  Here is the info on each of the colleges.

Milledge Preston MB College: This college is held in Portland on Wednesday nights (one Wednesday per month) from October through January. This College is coordinated by Larry Levesque. Sign up is by email.

Troop 800 MB College: This college is held in Raymond on Thursday nights from later in the month of October and completing just before Thanksgiving. This College is coordinated by Tom Wiley and Troop 800. Sign up is online.

Troop 817 MB College: This college is held in Gorham on Tuesday nights (one Tuesday per month) from February through May. This College is coordinated by Jon Patten and Troop 817. Sign up is by email.
